In his remarks, Yamin noted that "this equipment sponsored by the American people underscores the commitment of the United States of America to partner with the Tanzania Police Force to strengthen its capacity to serve the people of Tanzania.
In every nation citizens must have trust in its security institutions, especially in regards to public protection, access to justice, and combating the scourge of human trafficking. We believe this equipment will contribute to meeting those goals."
The equipment includes two laptop computers, six digital cameras, and one printer for the TPF's Criminal Investigations Division's Human Trafficking Unit, one Power Point projector for the Training Division, and two 5 kilowatt portable generators for the Operations Division's.
In addition, the United States provided the TPF's Field Force Unit with one 5 kilowatt portable generator, one digital camera, 30 flashlights, 12 ballistic vests, 12 ballistic helmets, 12 ballistic shields, and 20 handcuffs.
The event was attended by Senior Superintendent of the Police Jackson Kaganda and nine senior police officials.
In 2012, U.S. assistance to the Tanzania Police Force also includes 25 basic and advanced training courses for over 300 police officers, support for Community Policing programs, the rehabilitation of the police forensics laboratory, and support and equipment for the Maritime Security program.
